About AIS
Site = Work in Progress = Place of Significant Event
Our Philosophy is simple: to showcase and promote excellence in Filipino art and literature, and reflect the Filipino’s distinctive cultural heritage. It is our intent to inform, interpret, entertain, invite dialogue and provide food for thought for the creative community and arts enthusiast, as well as the general reader.
AIS is especially interested in artists whose work is pushing boundaries in content and form, and whose passion involves challenging the status quo with community involvement. The Philippines has so many young brilliant artists and writers with untapped talents with little chance of exposure of sharing their art here and abroad.
We will provide a platform for a diversity of voices — both established and emerging artists, students, educators and arts enthusiasts — to promote the use of the arts in an all-encompassing and provocative discourse about ourselves and our communities.
AIS believes the experience; language and practice of the arts are underutilized in our efforts to promote high student achievement, active community building, and a rich quality of life for all Filipinos.
As we increase public awareness of the powerful role that the arts can contribute to education and nation building, it will also put the spotlight on the urgent need to increase funding for artists and arts-related programs.
In the last 20 years, support for the arts in the Philippines has dramatically declined, so has public interest in our cultural heritage. It is urgent that we address this issue head on right now. Art in Site will represent the arts community’s collective effort to push this undertaking for renewed interest, funding and participation in the arts.
Art in Site is committed to supporting Filipino artists — wherever they are around the world — by promoting dialogue to ensure that their varied and unique voices become part of the larger conversation to strengthen our communities and country.
In closing, we urge all artistic minds to join us in shaking, rattling and rolling the cobwebbed cages of jaded minds. Watch the change unfold. It is good for the soul!
Maraming salamat po!
Patricia Laurel
